Walt Disney World: The Happiest Disney location in the World!

Arriving at Walt Disney World
I live in Florida, so I might be a little bias when I say that Walt Disney World is the happiest Disney location in the World (and it's the only Disney I've been to 😄😊). Well, in this blog post I will clearly state my reasons, so relive my journey to Walt Disney World by reading through. 😉

First, as far as I know, Walt Disney World Resort, is the only Disney Resort, which has 4 theme parks that you can explore, namely: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. So, more attractions, more fun! Knowing that, it's obviously the biggest resort among others covering a 43 sq mi property and housing several themed resort hotels that can cater almost any budget. And since we are still talking about the size, Walt Disney World has more rides and attractions than any other Disney Resorts. Evidently, since it has 4 theme parks, one day is not enough to explore all 4. If you actually want to try all the rides and see all the attractions in just only one theme park, one day is not even enough.

So, to celebrate our second wedding anniversary, my husband and I decided to go to Walt Disney World. We started the early stage of planning and saving up for it since January and finally booked our stay and bought our tickets on February. Since we are Florida residents, we took advantage of the Walt Disney Resorts limited offer for tickets and rooms (yep, one of the perks of being a Floridian). We actually save $300 for the 3-day tickets (admission to one park per day) just for being a Florida resident (sweet, right?). As for the hotel, we got one of the cheapest offer and you have many more to choose from (well, depends on availability of the rooms of course). We did all this conveniently with our MyDisneyExperience account online. After a couple of weeks, before our Disney staycation, we received our complimentary MagicBands. So what are MagicBands? MagicBands are colorful, waterproof wristbands—resembling a watch or bracelet—that you can quickly and easily touch to a sensor called a touch point”. It was actually one cool tool to unlock many features of your vacation at Disney World resort. It serves as your park ticket, hotel room key, FastPass+ reservation check-in tool and even as your credit card! Yes, this is another reason why Walt Disney World is the happiest Disney location in the World. As of this date, other Disney Resorts do not have this technology of making your vacation as seamless as possible. Well, who knows, maybe in the future other Disney locations will introduce this technology, but for now, yay for Walt Disney World! Just to be clear, MagicBands are automatically given to you if you are staying at any Disney Resort hotels or if you are a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder. If you are neither any of the two, you will only receive a card when you purchase tickets for park admission.

Note:
The names of the rides and/or attractions have links, you can click on it so you can see the description of what kind of rides or attractions it is.

Arriving at our hotel

DAY 1: Hollywood Studios Adventure

On March 17, we arrived at our hotel (Disney's Pop Century Resort) around 8:30 am (yes, we traveled early in the morning for 1 and a half hour drive). This hotel, although one of the cheapest was a decent place to stay. It has a 50s to 90s 'feel' as it was the theme of this resort. Standard check-in was actually at 3 pm but we are fortunate enough to have a room ready for us on our arrival. Since we already did an online check-in a day before our arrival, it was a smooth process when we arrived at the hotel. They just gave us the room number and we are all set.

Our first theme park to explore.
After a short rest in our room, we went ahead to our first theme park destination: Hollywood Studios. All Disney Hotels have a complimentary transportation bus that will bring you to any theme park and bring you back to the hotel afterwards. The Hollywood Studios was actually the smallest park among the 3, so there are fewer things to do and to see here. However, you will still have a hard time exploring everything because mainly, there are a lot of people and almost all of them wanted to experience everything, hence, the long lines. This is where a FastPass+ can be handy. You can reserve 3 things that you wanted to explore in a park and you will be a priority! No need to wait long hours in the line. For example, my husband and I reserved Star Tours - The Adventure Continues, Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage, and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. All of these 3 are popular attractions and entertainments in Hollywood Studios so it has commonly long lines. These 3 was actually my top 3 favorites in this theme park and I am glad we picked them for our FastPass+. We also had the chance to watch the March of the First OrderFor the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing Along Celebration and Star Wars: Path of a Jedi. We also had a chance to explore Star Wars Launch Bay and observe kids in Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple.  There were other rides you can experience like the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Great Movie Ride, Toy Story Mania!, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™.  My husband is not a fan of roller coaster rides and horror themed rides, so we stayed away trying those. On the other hand, you can watch some shows instead like Disney Junior Live on Stage and Muppet*Vision 3D which are basically for kids, so we did not watch any of it either. If you still have time and would like to explore more, you can try Walt Disney: One Man's Dream. You can also meet some Disney Characters like Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Olaf, Buzz Lightyear and Woody, the Disney Junior Pals, as well as Mickey and Minnie in this theme park, but you have to wait in long lines for many people would like to meet and take a picture with them too. I do not have the patience to wait that day so I was not able to meet any Disney characters.

Min and Bill Dockside Diner. They serve a large serving of foot-long hot dogs!
I don't have many photos in this theme park. On our way to Disney, my husband continuously reminded me to not be overly obsessed with taking pictures. Since this is my first visit, he told me to just enjoy and feel the moment rather than get busy taking photos (which is true and absolutely worth it).

We had fun exploring our first theme park, but was so exhausted since we only had a few hours of sleep. We went back to our hotel around 6 pm so we weren't able to see the park's nighttime attractions such as Fantasmic! and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.

DAY 2: Magic Kingdom Fascination
The next theme park we explore the following day was the Magic Kingdom. Bigger than the Hollywood Studios, there are more things to do with this theme park. It is divided into 6 areas called: Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. The Main Street and Liberty Square area, mostly consist of restaurants, food stalls and gift shops. Upon entering, you will be amazed by Magic Kingdom's icon, the Cinderella Castle.

The icon of Magic Kingdom, Cinderella Castle at the background

It was so huge and looks like a real castle! In a short time, I felt like I was a Princess in a Disney movie!💃

The 3 FastPass+ we had in this theme park was the Jungle Cruise, Tomorrowland Speedway and Under the Sea- Journey of the Little Mermaid. All our FastPass+ was scheduled in the afternoon, so we had time to explore the entirety of the park. My husband, as I have already mentioned was not a fan of roller coaster rides (or rides in general). Since I really wanted to try some rides and Splash Mountain looks fun, I tried it alone. The waiting time indicated at the entrance was 50 minutes (yes! everyone wanted to try that ride!). But in reality, it was only 20 minutes (at least by the time I waited).

Patiently waiting in line.

I conquered the Splash Mountain ride!

Aside from Splash Mountain, you can also try Walt Disney World Railroad, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Tom Sawyer Island all in the Frontierland area.

Adventureland Arc - your adventure begins here.

A Room where birds and flowers come to life and sing.
When you go to Fantasyland, you can see a lot of rides and attractions mostly for kids - Prince Charming Regal Carousel, Peter Pan's Flight, "it's a small world", Casey Jr. Splash 'N' Soak Station, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Mad Tea Party and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Some rides and attractions that will suit for a not so kid anymore includes Mickey's PhilharMagic, Enchanted Tales with Belle, Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid, Walt Disney World Railroad (which is also in Frontierland area), The Barnstormer and the Seven Dwarf Mine Train. You can also meet some Disney characters here in Fantasyland, such as Ariel, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Minnie and some Disney Princesses. I wasn't able to meet any of them though. I met one Disney Princess, Princess Merida of DunBroch. I was the only adult in line for this character meet, hahaha.

With Princess Merida of DunBroch #Brave
Last but not the least is the exciting rides and attractions in Tomorrowland area. The theme of this area is Disney's view of the future. Rides and attractions include Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, Stitch's Great Escape! (which, unfortunately, was close during our visit), Tomorrowland Speedway (which is one of my favorites since I've had the chance to drive on my own), Space Mountain, Astro Orbiter, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin.

You may also want to stay until night to see Magic Kingdom's Wishes nighttime spectacular.

Day 3: EPCOT - Travel to the Future and Beyond
We saved the best for last - EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow). Well, this theme park is the biggest among all 4 and it was my husband's favorite (he used to work here). Upon entering the park, you won't missed noticing the EPCOT's icon - Spaceship Earth. It was actually one of our FastPass+ reservations along with The Seas with Nemo and Friends and IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth (which, by the way was amazing!).

Epcot has four areas you can explore: Future World East, Future World West, Showcase Plaza and the World Showcase.  In the Future World East there's a lot of rides and entertainments you can try like the Spaceship Earth, Project Tomorrow: Inventing the Wonders of the Future, Ellen's Energy Adventure, Mission: SPACE, Advanced Training Lab, Test Track and Innoventions.

While in the Future World West, you can try The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Turtle Talk with Crush, Soarin, The Circle of Life, Journey Into Imagination with Figment, and ImageWorks.

Showcase Plaza was basically an area for outdoor kitchens and gift shops.

Epcot's Icon, Spaceship Earth.

During our visit, Disney World have ongoing Epcot International Flower Garden Festival so there were lots of different beautiful flowers all over the park.

Can't resist to take a selfie with this beautiful flowery tree.

I've got to meet so many Disney Characters here! I waited in line just to meet some of my favorites, which includes Baymax of Big Hero 6, Joy and Sadness of Inside Out, and Elsa and Ana of Frozen. Yes! I am one happy kiddo that day!😊

With two of my favorites hug-gable creatures.😀

What I enjoyed the most was exploring the World Showcase: DestiNations Discovered. There were 11 countries to explore with including Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, United States, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom and Canada. There were amazing structures, architectures and landscapes that will let you feel like you are really in that certain country!

1. MEXICO
The pyramid architecture in the Mexico Pavilion World Showcase was stunning. I was excited to go inside right after seeing it from afar. Once you entered, you will see the gallery display showcasing Mexican artwork and collection. The other entrance ahead will lead you to a Mexican village and Market-themed place where you can buy some Mexican souvenirs. At the edge of the plaza is an elegantly looking Mexican restaurant (that would probably cost you a fortune when you dine, yes I am exaggerating). We went to try the boat ride called Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros located at the side of the Plaza.

2. NORWAY
Our next stop was Norway Pavilion. It has cool Norwegian architectures and my favorite part was the Royal Sommerhus where I met the beloved sisters of Arendelle - Elsa and Anna. We wanted to try the Frozen Ever After ride, but unfortunately, it was close in the morning due to technical problems and when we tried to see if it's up and running in the afternoon (one of the cast member told us that it might run in the afternoon), the lines were really long with almost 1 and a half hour waiting time😔.

3. CHINA
The China Pavilion was one of our favorites. We did not do much here but we enjoyed watching the performance of the Jeweled Dragon Acrobats and just simply walking in the gift shop that has many cute things inside. My husband wanted to meet Mulan (one of his favorite Disney characters) but there was a long line and he did not like the Disney cast member who portrayed as Mulan. But you can watch the Reflections of China if you're interested to view the places and faces of China in a 14-minute film.

These Pandas are so adorable!

4.GERMANY
Our 4th destination was the Germany Pavilion. Focused on German folklore, this pavilion is designed to look like a German town. Like other pavilions, it has amazing architecture. There is not much to do here but appreciate Germany's landmarks and architectures along with shops and restaurant or food stalls where you can taste German food.

5. Italy
We were already so tired of walking when we arrived in Italy Pavilion, so when we found a shaded place to sit and rest for a while, we took our time to relax our sore feet. We ended up in the Neptune Fountain (reminiscent of Rome's Trevi Fountain in Rome, Italy). An amazing structure in the pavilion includes the Bell Tower (the re-creation of St. Mark's Campanile in Venice, Italy) and a replica of the Doge's Palace. Shops where you can buy Italian goods are also around this pavilion.

6. The American Adventure
We actually just passed by this host pavilion because my husband is not interested in his own country.😅😆😁 But in case you would like to visit this pavilion, you can watch the 30-minute film, music and audio-animations called The American Adventure where you can explore the past and the future of America. There's a lot of restaurants to eat with, so enjoy your food trips! Yep, just one photo here. 😔😏😐

While passing by the pavilion, I snap a photo.
7. Japan
One of our favorites, Japan Pavilion, was also one of the smallest. The entrance of the pavilion features an amazing Japanese Pagoda and the water in front of the pavilion shows a Torii gate of the Itsukushima Shrine. Of course, cute Japanese stuff can be found in the gift shops.

8. Morocco
This is one of the smallest pavilions and one of the uninteresting one for us, so like The American Adventure, we only passed by this pavilion. The pavilion has a cool design of a Moroccan city that showcase lifestyle and culture of the Moroccan people. The realistic Minaret (a distinctive architectural structure akin to a tower) will catch your attention.

9. France
One of the largest pavilions, France offers to showcase your typical Paris neighborhood. You can see the majestic Eiffel Tower (which I can't figure out why I miss taking a picture), shops offering genuine French goods and the popular Beauty and the Beast topiaries. You can also watch a 20-minute film where you can experience the grandeur and charm of the French countryside called Impressions de France.

10. United Kingdom
Second to the last pavilion is the United Kingdom. This pavilion was designed to look like a typical British village. Like other pavilions, it has great architectural designs and interesting structures.

Can you spot Peter Pan?

11. Canada
Last but definitely not the least is the Canada Pavilion. You can watch a 14-minute Circle-Vision 360 film that will take you to a country tour and show its landmarks, scenery and culture. You will see the Mill Stage where a band is performing, There were only few a stores in this Pavilion and not that much to do as well.

That was the tiring long-hour walks in the entire World Showcase area. We walk back to the Showcase Plaza and stop by to check out the Butterfly garden. Although there are just few butterflies around, I enjoyed seeing some beautiful flowers inside the garden.

Beautiful colors!

Then my husband and I went to Club Cool to taste the complimentary samples of soft drinks from around the world. Refreshing indeed!

Pick your choice. 😊

After so much walking, we rested in one of the benches. We basically waited there until it's time for the IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, our vacation's finale. It was a stunning fireworks display and worth the finale of our mini vacation. With a heavy, but happy heart, we left the theme park and brought our good memories home.

Next time we might visit the last theme park, Magic Kingdom. Until then...adios Walt Disney World!

How my 2-year Marriage Have Been

Thursday, March 16, 2017

It was March 16, 2015 when my husband and I exchange our marriage vows and it has now been 2 years! Sure, time flew by so fast! How am I doing now after 2 years of marriage?

First year of marriage was difficult for us. We only got to spend time together as husband and wife for a month. The parting time was painful and at some point, the separation anxiety was unbearable. Yes, it was never easy to be in a long distance relationship and yes, it was not advisable because married people are meant to stay close together especially in the first year of marriage.

I have always been an emotional and moody person. I get easily disappointed when things don’t go according to plan or on how the way I expected it to happen. Moreover, I am not even good on communicating my feelings, I will just stop talking and will give my husband a cold treatment -- and that was one big no-no in every relationship. You can imagine my poor husband trying to figure out what he did wrong and can’t even get in touch with me because I won’t answer his messages. I know, it was a struggle for us to keep the relationship healthy during our LDR moments while I am acting childish and immature.  I was like that for a long time and my husband on the other hand was always the apologetic and forgiving one. And I think that’s how we survived our first year of marriage alongside putting God first, even in a long distance relationship.

So how about our second year of marriage? That’s a totally different story! This time, we were physically together and our relationship with each other changed significantly. I am still the same moody and emotional wife and person that I am, but this time around, I was able to get to talk about how I feel (even though it took me a while to learn how to do it) and my husband was able to hold and embrace me when I am acting up, which, in turn, always made me feel better. I learned to somewhat control my emotions and tried to be more open to my husband (I’m still a work in progress). By the way, these articles helped me a lot in my communication issue and marriage in general: Surviving First Year of Marriage and Strengthen Your MarriageThrough Good Communication.

Before marriage, I used to be a career woman. I work 5 times a week with a typical 7am - 5pm job until up to my first year of marriage. But come the second year was a full turn from being a working gal into being a full-time housewife. Was that change difficult for me? Totally not! was my initial answer, but I realized that it was in some areas. I guess the change itself is not difficult at all, but the associated areas of it. Let me explain first why I think that changing from a career woman to a full time housewife was not difficult for me at all. Although I excel on all the jobs I’ve worked for before, I always felt deep within that I am not a career-oriented person. That I am better off doing something with a purpose like being a full time evangelizer, a volunteer or simply being a housewife (yes, being a housewife is a life with a purpose) besides, I love being at home hahaha. So, I find it not really hard to leave my career-oriented life and embraced a new beginning of being a full time housewife. But one thing I struggled with being a full time housewife in the early stage of my second year of marriage, was being in a foreign land-- away from my family and friends, stuck at home alone the whole day with such little things to do (back then, we don’t have internet connection, I don’t have a working phone and a laptop yet). I got so bored and most of the time I was just sleeping all day (that explains the fats and the round face hahaha).

Okay, well, aside from doing some house chores and sleeping all day, I was also busy preparing all the papers we need for the immigration. It was a tough time for us because the filing fees were expensive and my husband was the only one working, but we were so glad we’re over it now! You can read all about our immigration journey here.

Overall, it’s been a crazy, fun and amazingly happy 2 years of marriage! I love being my husband’s wife. Although I am still a full time housewife, now I have a part-time online work at home that keeps me busy. I am still trying to learn the Spanish language and still struggling (I am just one lazy student, I know) and I am planning to learn how to drive really soon and hopefully, in the near future, we can finally move closer to where our friends and spiritual family are.

I can’t wait to see what else life can offer our marriage in the coming years!

Nope. No babies please. :)

P.S.

I made a video from raw files of our wedding given to me by our Photographer as a simple gift to my husband. Credits to JW weddings for all our wedding pictures and videos. Click below to watch it! :)

My Proactiv Experience and Review

Monday, March 13, 2017

When I was younger, I barely get pimples. However, when I got older, I started having breakouts. I tried different facial washes and acne solutions but nothing seems to work. I got really frustrated.

One day my loving husband (who always tells me that I am still beautiful even with many pimples), suggested this product called Proactiv. That day, I started researching about it. I find it interesting and within my budget. I ordered the Proactiv 30-Day, 3-Step System online for $19.95 + $5.99 SF = $25.94. Take note that once you ordered it online, you will be automatically signed up in their subscription program that will send another package that will be a larger 90-day supply replenishment approximately every 12 weeks (I think that's the standard, but you can change the frequency of your product shipment up to 20 weeks) and it will cost you $68.82 including shipping fee, but the cost would be billed in 3 convenient payments which would be $22.94 approximately every 4 weeks (yeah, it's kinda pricey, but believe me, it's worth it, at least for me).

My 30-day, 3-step Proactiv Kit with a free traveler kit &sample size of Green Tea Moisturizer

Okay, going back to the start, when I received my first box on a Saturday afternoon, I was really excited to use it. But I waited until Monday so I can a have a brand new week of using a new product on my face. I decided to stop putting makeup on my face as well while using the product because I badly wanted to make all the pimples disappear.

I carefully checked everything that came with the box and read the instructions thoroughly. It comes with a welcome letter, a brochure of different Proactiv products that you can buy separately or add to your kit online and a quick start guide on how to use the 3-Step system. It was actually 3 easy steps and all the 3 bottles are numbered 1 - 3 so you won't get lost in the process. It also came with a cute free 3-system travel kit and a sample size of a Green Tea Moisturizer.

Within 2 weeks of using the product I can already see positive results. My husband also noticed that I have lesser pimples and lighter dark spots on my face. However, from time to time, new pimples still appear, specially when I will be having my period but, I can say that the breakouts was not that bad anymore.

My face before using Pro-activ (Sorry for the low quality picture)
To summarize what I like and I don't like with this product:

What I like about it:

  • It works for me.
  • It's easy to use.
  • It has a decent quantity (my kit actually exceeded the 30 days).
  • It's easily available and fast shipping.
  • It doesn't have a strong smell.
What I don't like about it:
  • It's an automatic subscription, which can actually turn out to be really expensive.
  • You can't cancel online, but only thru calling their customer support hotline.
  • It can really dry your skin (so you need to get an additional moisturizer).
  • It can bleach your clothes or face towels.

My face after using Proactiv for 2 weeks.

My final verdict? I'll give this product an 8/10 stars. I loved this product but I hope it can get a little bit more affordable specially for those whose suffering from bad acne that can't afford Proactiv's high price.

My face after using Proactiv for 30 days. Big improvement indeed!

My AOS Interview Experience - Tampa, FL

So, this was it! The final step for me to be able get a green card!

Date of Appointment:  March 2, 2017
Time of Appointment: 10:45 AM
Where:                          APPLICATION SUPPORT CENTER
                                      USCIS TAMPA
  Lobby B
                                      5629 Hoover Blvd
                                      Tampa FL, 33634

The beginning of a new day.
My husband and I woke up early to prepare for the interview. The night before, he was anxious and a little worried but on the other hand, I was excited. We were already on the road around 8:15 am. It was an hour drive and since we did not eat anything for breakfast, we got hungry along the way so we ordered at a Burger King drive thru, few minutes away to our destination.

The fun of waiting.
We arrived at the ASC at 9:15 am and passed the security. At security, we have to put our belongings in a container, my husband removed his shoes (I didn't because I am wearing sandals), and his belt as well and all the things he has in his pocket (wallet, keys, coins, etc.). Upon entering, we headed towards the registration desk. There was only one waiting in line and there were two officers serving at the registration so we were called next. The officer asked for the appointment letter which I handed him. He carefully looked at my appointment and noticed that my schedule was still at 10:45. He commended us for being early (which he said is always a good thing), however, they can only accept to register an appointment as early as 30 minutes before the schedule. He told us to come back at 10:15 and that we can go outside for a while or wait in the waiting room as long as we come back at the said time. We chose to just wait in the waiting area where few people are sitting. Some are being called to the windows located inside. Although I tried to figure out what was those windows are for, I wasn't able to determine but I know for sure it was not for our interview. We noticed some couples sitting at the end of the waiting room and not long we figured out that the door at the end of the room was where the immigration interviews were taking place. We saw immigration officers coming out of that door and calling out numbers, then couples, families or individuals coming in. We saw different types of officers coming out and we can’t help but to judge them based on how they look (which are commonly serious). Honestly, there were only few officers who looked nice. :) My husband and I ended up waiting for officers come out the door with the persons with them and judge what the outcome of the interview based on their facial expressions. There were quite some who looked disappointed when they got out of the interview room and there were those who looked really happy with all smiles in their faces. I noticed that many of the people who were there for their immigration interview have their lawyers with them and some have interpreters. When we got tired looking at the door and waiting for people to come in and out, my husband decided to look at our huge photo album that I brought. We then reminisce our times in the Philippines and how we ended up being there. Fast forward to 10:15. After an hour of waiting, we went ahead to the registration desk and this time there were more people coming in and a few lined up. At the registration, I handed back our appointment letter again and the officer checked and scanned the appointment and gave us a queue number - K-40.

The waiting continues.
We came back to the waiting area, and this time we sat closer to where we can clearly see the door to the interview office. This time, I was already anxious and nervous. Whenever the door opens, my heart skips a bit. Then my husband and I went back to checking in the immigration officers appearing at the door and most of the time we would say to each other “I hope we don’t get that officer. He looks mean/intimidating/rude/scary.” Some couples were interviewed separately, letting the wife go first and leaving the husband outside. That felt a lot scarier for me.

The most awaited time - Part 1: The Story of the Beginning.
I was silently praying while waiting and just wanted for the day to end and get over this nerve-wracking process. At last, around 10:45 am which was our original schedule, a small, nice looking guy opened the door and called our number. Gladly, he did not separate us, but escorted us both to his room. My husband says he was a Puerto Rican. He introduces himself as Officer Lopez (Emilio Lopez). He has sworn us in before letting us take a seat. Then he asked us for our ID’s and I provided him with my old and new passport plus my EAD and State ID then my husband’s passport and his driver’s license. He returned my EAD and checked all other ID’s while checking his file (the pile of papers we sent to USCIS). He then returned all the ID’s and turned to my husband with his first question: When and where did you met? My husband told him that in 2011 we met on Facebook via a common friend. Still asking my husband: So, who add who? My husband responded that it was him who added me. But back then it was plain friendship and not a romantic relationship. Then a followup question by the officer: When did it start to become a romantic relationship? I was just listening while my husband was telling the officer that it was only late 2013 when we started dating and early 2014 when we became an official couple. How did your romance progress? We started talking on the phone more and we met personally for the first time on May 2014 in California. Then the officer finally turned to me asking: What are you doing in California? I told him that I was on a business trip. My company held a Legal Summit every year and invited us and then I requested a 3 day extension to my vacation so I can spend time with him. Then he asked: How many times have you been in the US before getting in a relationship with your husband? I told him I already went February of 2014 before we were even couples. Then May 2014 was the 2nd time in the US and I also mentioned I went back September 2015 when we already married. He then checks his computer, go over the copy of my passport and visa in file and checked all the stamps I have in there. Then he proceeded by asking: Do you have any additional supporting documents that you would like to present to me before going further with the interview? I pulled out the large folder we brought and put the papers in front of him. Then he asked: So what do we have here? I told him, first we have my husband’s 2 months recent pay stubs, letter from his employer and 2016 Tax refund and W2’s. He checked the paper then asked my husband: What do you do Sir? My husband simply said that he is a Lawn Care Specialist. He then asked me: Are you working too? I said yes, I am a part time freelancer working from home doing administrative jobs. A follow-up question was asked: What administrative jobs do you do? I told him it’s different with every client. I have 4 clients right now. One of them asked me to upload their products in Shopify, I was helping the other client in updating documents, in the other I was an email support and a hiring manager. Then he put the pay stubs, letter and tax documents aside and asked again: What else do we have here? Next on my list was the original money orders that we have since 2014 - 2016. The officer asked: What are these money orders for? My husband answer that he supported me when I was in the Philippines and then he will send money to me for the payment of the house we bought in the Philippines. Then the officer asked: So you have a property in the Philippines? I told him that we used to have it, but in the middle of the process, we lost it. Then he further asked: What happened to it? I explained that it was a miscommunication with the vendor since they failed to tell me before leaving for vacation in the US that I will lose my housing loan because I am not working anymore. The officer seems to understand and did not question any further about it. But the officer said that since he already have copies of those, he won’t need it anymore. What else? I then presented our bank statements. He was unfamiliar with Money Network, which is our card company and was the name printed on the bank statements. My husband told him the Money Network was just the card provider and the name of the bank was MetaBank. He further explains that before, his card was only a payroll card, but when he got a new job, he upgraded it to a checking account. The officer asked to confirm: So whose account is this? My husband said that it is his account and he added me as a secondary card holder so we both use the account. The officer then started reviewing the bank statements and all the transactions that we had. I highlighted the entries that says “Secondary Card Transfer to Marionette Solorio” in his bank statements and the “Secondary Card Transfer from Rafael Solorio” in mine so the officer can easily see that we share that same account. After that, he asked again: What else? I then showed him our signed Advance Health Directive where we are the Health Care Surrogate of each other. Anything else?, he further asked. I handed him the car insurance. He asked my husband what kind of car do we drive. My husband says Chrysler Sebring Convertible. Then he asked me if I drive. I said not yet, but planning to drive in the future. He went over to see the next documents we have which are the bills. I told him that we divided the bills so I pay the internet bill and my husband pays everything else (water bill, phone bill and car insurance). He then asked if we rent. My husband said no because we were living in a house where we served as caretakers. So you are living for free?, he asked and my husband said yes. He then asked for the name of the owner of the house and wrote it down in a sticky note. He also asked if there is someone else who is living with us. We said no. The officer remembers that my husband listed his mom as a dependent on his 2015 Federal Tax Return. My husband told the officer that his mom was living with him before, but is now residing in Georgia. He further asked my husband where he lived before. My husband said that he used to live in Lakeland for about 6 months since he was working in a hotel, but came back to our present address for good. Then the officer went through our next documents and asked: What’s this? I told him it was our Disney Tickets and Hotel reservations for our upcoming 2nd wedding anniversary celebration. Then he quickly checked it and went over to the next documents which he did not bother to check anymore since it was just all the original copies of all the supporting documents we sent with our AOS papers (Flight tickets, original receipts and payment stubs from the wedding preparation, letters, cards and cinema tickets). He didn’t even asked to see any of our photos. So as a summary, the officer gets the copy of our bank statements, advance health directives, car insurance, Disney tickets and hotel reservations and bills except for the water.

The most awaited time - Part 2: The Fun Part.
The the officer told us to keep all other papers and clean the table. He said that we will be going old school and this will let him know how much we know each other. He both gave us a piece of paper and ball pens. He explained that he will be asking questions that we should write the answer in our papers and that we should not in any way  look at each other or make a noise like “ahmm..uhmmm” when we don’t know the answer. He instructed us to just write “I don’t know” or “I don’t remember”. He numbered the papers 1 - 5 with a, b, c in number 1.

The first question was all about the proposal. A. Where was the proposal? B. When was the proposal? (He said we can give an estimate of around what date if we can’t remember the exact date) C. Were there other gifts involved? If yes, what are those gifts?
The second question was: Who took a shower first this morning? The third question was: How much does the husband earn weekly? (Even estimates are acceptable). Fourth: How much does the wife earn weekly? Fifth question: What is my husband’s favorite food?
Of course, we answered all the questions correctly! The officer then asked my husband: How do you talk to your wife when you’re at work? My husband said he uses text messaging. Then as a follow up question, the officer asked: What else do you use to contact your wife beside regular text messaging? My husband told him that he sometimes used Facebook messenger, but most of the time it was thru regular text messaging. Afterwards, to our surprise, he asked both of us to show him our phones. He told us he wanted to see our text messaging conversation and he swears that everything that he will see is strictly confidential so we don’t have to worry. Good thing we have a decent last conversation discussing some prospect houses we are looking at. But mind you, the officer did scroll up and down to read recent and previous conversations. Then the officer asked me if I have a Facebook account in which I said yes. Then he asked me to open up my Facebook account for him. He then went into my timeline and just check the “About” portion of it. He then seems to be happy and satisfied seeing that my profile shows that I am married with the name of my husband and the date of our wedding. Then the officer told us to keep our phone back to ourselves. He then began asking me the “Yes” and “No” questions from the I-485 Form (AOS).  The officer was serious while asking, but in one point made a joke that made me and my husband laugh. The question was “Have you ever been a member of , assisted in, or participated in any group, unit, or organization of any kind in which you or other persons used any type of weapon against any person or threatened to do so?” Of course my answer was no but the officer has a follow up question: Are you sure? Even using a kitchen knife as a weapon against your husband if he misbehaved? We all chuckled.

The conclusion: The end is not the end.
The officer  began opening and browsing the pile of papers he have and removing some excess copies of some documents. He was constantly checking some information from our papers and jotting down some notes from the beginning of the interview. He then asked me for my date of birth and confirmed my full name. He went to check my birth certificate on file and noticed that I have a different name in my birth certificate. Honestly, at first glance, I do have a confusing birth certificate. I have Marion Del Rosario as my name and everything else was wrong as well. So I have to point out the annotation for all the changes made in my birth certificate written on the side. He carefully looked at it and read everything. He then asked me where Marionette came from. I simply told him that it was really the name given to me by my parents at birth, however the local Municipal office in our town messed up somewhere during my name’s registration. He asked why did we wait so long to fix it. I explained that we do not know that it was wrong not until my graduation from high school. Since one of the requirements was an authenticated birth certificate from the National Statistic Office, we requested it and just found out that it was wrong all along and our local Municipal office was releasing a copy of my birth certificate with the correct name given by my parents but it was not the name registered in NSO. He paused and seems that he was thinking deeply. He asked me if I have documents supporting the changes with me, but I told him that unfortunately it was all in the Philippines but I have the original copy of my birth certificate. He requested to see it and then made a copy for himself (I guess because the one in his file was a little cut off, not showing the signatures from the office). He included the copy to his file and then closed his folder. He then told us that everything was good except for my birth certificate. He added that it would be easier if the only thing that was changed was my name but we changed almost everything including my mom and dad’s name and their date of marriage. So he told us he would need more time to review and check on his systems. Afterwards, he handed us a paper that says “Notice of Interview Results”  and the first box was checked for the “Reason For Continuance” which states “Your Case is being held for review. At this time, USCIS does not require any further information or documents from you. Should further information or documents be required, you will receive a notice in the mail. Otherwise, a final decision will be mailed once your case is complete”. This was also the same words we heard the officer told us at the end of our interview. My husband and I are really not that disappointed or sad because we felt that we did everything right in the interview and we have all the necessary documents submitted to them, so we still walk out of the room with a smile and a sigh of relief that finally, the interview that lasted for about an hour was already finished!

The aftermath.
All the waiting and the interview itself made me and my hubby so hungry so we drive straight to Burger King, which was the closest we can go eat.  (Insert picture here)
As we are ordering at the counter, I received a text message from USCIS, around 12 noon, saying that my case number has now been updated. I was so excited to check it in hope that it was our most-awaited approval. But it was only to say that “Interview Was Completed and My Case Must Be Reviewed”.  Oh well, I still enjoyed my meal though.
Burger King's refreshing Oreo shake and flammin' hot Chicken fries (my hubby at the background).

The real ending is soon.
At around 2:45, I received another message from USCIS alerting me of a changed in my case. I went ahead to check it and found out the most happiest news I could ever have that day: “New Card is being Produced”! That means I was approved to receive a Green card and they already ordered it! What a great joy indeed!

My most awaited message of the day!

I still received another message from USCIS around 6:40 pm for another update on my case. I went ahead and checked what could it be and it says: “Case Was Approved”. I was wondering what that meant but when I checked my email, the USCIS explained that it was a Post decision Activity that may include USCIS sending notification of the approved application/petition to the National Visa Center or the Department of State.

The.End.At Last.
On March 7, when I checked the Mail, I found the Approval Letter from USCIS. “Welcome to the United States of America”. It felt surreal! The letter also said that I should receive my green card within the next 3 weeks.
My welcome letter to the United States of America!
On March 9 around 1:00 in the afternoon, I received a new text from USCIS. I hurriedly checked online and saw: “Card Was Mailed To Me”. The update also says that it was sent on March 6 and if I do not receive my card by April 5,2017, I should go online to request them to send me a new one. And guess what, at 4:00 pm, my usual time to check our mailbox, I found my green card! Yes! It was fast indeed! Only 3 days after it was sent to me! Happy dance here. Finally, my husband and I can rest for at least 1 year and 7 months from now before we delve into another pile of seemingly unending paper works. :)

Finally, my green card!
Hope you had enjoyed reading my AOS journey all throughout! See you again within 2 years!
