My Top 20 Beauty Brands in 2020

Wednesday, December 23, 2020

2020 might not be everyone's favorite year right now. There was so much sadness throughout this year, but I can't help but to still be thankful. Along with everything that happened are some great realizations and discoveries for me. And although it might be a little early to say this, I will claim it already:
"Hey, I am still alive and ready for 2021!"

But before we leave this super dramatic year, I would love to take this opportunity to mention the top 20 beauty brands that made my 2020 a little better. Shall we start?

1. PixiBeautyThis brand would be my number one on the list. If you read my previous posts, I never failed to mention PixiBeauty. Not only because I am on their PR list, but also because all their products are honestly incredible. So if you haven't check this affordable brand yet, you should start checking them out and see their wide range of skincare and makeup products. You might find a new favorite brand come in 2021. See my dedicated post for this brand here.

2. Good Molecules. Although I have only come to know this brand this year, it has quickly become one of my favorite. Their skincare worked so well for my skin and they have become a staple to my skincare routine. My wonderful 2020 skincare journey would not be the same without this brand. Learn more about them in my previous post here.

3. Fresh Beauty. This might be one of the most expensive brands I included in this list, nevertheless, they do deserve this spot because they have remarkable products that work. You can find something you will fall in love with from their variety of skincare, body care, and fragrance products.

4. Rituals. Looking for something affordable but luxurious beauty products? This brand is for you! Their body care set is phenomenal. And I can't wait to try their perfume, skincare, makeup, hair care, kitchen essentials, and clothing products. Yes, they have it all.

5. Innisfree. Are you a k-beauty fan? This Korean beauty brand should be on your list this coming new year if you haven't already tried it. Aside from their cute packaging, you'll love their skincare, makeup, body, and hair product line up.

6. Filorga. I have only tried two of this brand's products yet I might say they don't disappoint and it made me want to try all of their products. I am not even exaggerating. This brand is also on the pricey side but it's for a good reason. Their products are effective!

7. Kiss / Impress Manicure. I am not a fan of fancy acrylic nails but who doesn't like pretty nails once in a while? That is why I came to love this press-on manicure brand. Besides having a gorgeous line of beautiful nail designs, they are also easy to apply and are great for last-minute party calls. Yes, even the zoom parties.

8. Amika. What is beauty without beautiful hair, right? This brand has some astonishing hair care products. I personally love their Flash Instant Shine Mask. I didn't even have to comb my hair, let's leave it at that.

9. Eva-NYC. Let's talk more about hair care products. There's nothing more satisfying than a good hair day on quarantine mode. Ever since trying out their dry shampoo, this brand easily becomes one of my favorites.

10. Laneige. One of the keys to beauty is well-hydrated skin and lips. This is where Laneige comes into the picture. They have hydrating skincare and lip products that can make a difference in your beauty routine.

11. First Aid Beauty. I was first introduced to this brand this year and I couldn't be happier. FAB created products for all skin types but has a specialty for dry skin. Their Ultra Repair Cream is a best-seller and is also a game-changer for me. Their products are one of my winter must-haves.

12. I Dew Care. This is a fairly new brand to me but swiftly became a favorite. They have adorable and fun packaging and their products are exceptional. They had me with dewy and glowy skin. Most of the time, that's all I wear.

13. Spongelle. Bath has been extra enjoyable with Spongelle products! Their body wash-infused buffers are my favorite. All of their products from body and bath, hand care, feet care, and candles smell heavenly. Need a bath? Make it extra with Spongelle.

14. Hum Nutrition. Would you agree that beauty also comes from within? I do! I was gifted some of Hum Nutrition products that help me look and feel good inside and out. It has been a very great help for my skin as I have noticed I don't experience troublesome breakouts like before.

15. Merci Handy. This brand has been a ray of additional sunshine amidst the pandemic. Not only do they have very fun packaging (and some lovely jokes to smile about), they also have a charming hand, body, and hair products.

16. L'oreal. This year won't be complete without some L'oreal products. To tell you honestly, most of my lipsticks are from them and who doesn't love lipsticks? It's my favorite makeup. Now that I stay home and do not wear masks, lipstick is the only color I wear on my face most of the time.

17. Pop Beauty. This is a rather new brand that brings a pop of color to the beauty world! Their products have interesting names that will certainly get your attention. They bring you "uncomplicated" skincare and "unapologetic" color through their quality products.

18. Buxom Cosmetics. They offer a variety of beauty products and my favorite was their plumping lip glosses. The shine of their glosses are gorgeous and provides that refreshing and cooling sensation. Let's keep that until 2021 and the years to come.

19. Joah Beauty. If you are looking for an affordable K-beauty and drugstore brand, this is a brand you should start looking at. You can find it at your local CVS and there are so many products to choose from. Take your pick.

20. 310 Nutrition. You might think, this brand is not a beauty brand and you might be right. But hey, beauty comes from within, remember? 310 Nutrition has been part of my health and wellness journey throughout my 2020. Their protein shake powder and collagen powder are something that I can say became part of my beauty journey. Their collagen powder helps support healthy skin, so that counts as part of beauty, right?

Thank you for making it at the end of the list! I hope you found some new brands to try this coming 2021.

What are your top beauty brands this year? Did any of mine made your list too?

My Pixi Beauty Collection!

Brand spotlight coming up!

Have you ever heard about the brand PixiBeauty? If not, you're missing out! It's a beauty and skincare brand that offers incredible products to bring out your natural beauty. They've been around for 20 glowing years to provide "pure, awakening & skin-loving products that create a naturally radiant 'just had a good night's sleep' look." Sounds pretty amazing, right?

For today, I am sharing my collection of their skincare and beauty products and my favorites among them (which was actually hard to pick because they are all good!)

*By the way, all of these products are PR gifted, but this is not a sponsored post*

Here's their PixiGlow Cake ($28 each):

It comes in two Shade: GlidedBare Glow and PinkChampagne Glow. These 3-in-1 coordinated cheek colour and light-diffusing palette help to achieve a naturally healthy, radiant complexion with flushed apples of the cheeks, subtle contouring, and glowing highlights. These will definitely give you the naturally healthy and radiant glow! I can't pick just one from these two because I used each dependent on which look I am trying to achieve.

These are probably one of my favorite collections. I love everything pink and rose. :) This collection includes the following:

Rose Glow Mist - this refreshing Mist helps moisturize skin, improve elasticity and provide free radical protection - $15

Rose Ceramide Cream -  this ultra-rich cream provides long-lasting nourishment and help to improve skin's elasticity while protecting it against environmental aggressors - $24

Rose Cream Cleanser - this is a soothing and gentle cleanser that helps strengthen and soften the skin - $18

Rose Tonic - this toner rehydrates, replenishes, and refreshes skin while gently removing any impurities - $15

Rose Flash Balm - a great pick-me-up 3-in-1 moisturizer that instantly moisturizes and brightens the skin that can be used as a mask or a primer - $24

Rose Caviar Essence - this gorgeous looking product with its encapsulated flower oils is a weightless serum-essence that helps nourish and hydrate skin while providing immediate and long-term radiance - $24

Rose Oil Blend - a botanical blend that rejuvenates, restores and renews the skin to help improve its elasticity and glow - $24

Makeup Fixing Mist - keep that glow locked with this makeup setting spray that prolongs makeup wear while keeping your skin hydrated - $15

Among these products, my top two favorites are Rose Caviar Essence and Rose Ceramide Cream!

Here's their Eye Reflections Shadow Palette ($24 each):

They come in 4 shades:

Mixed Metals
Reflex Lights
Natural Beauty
Rustic Sunset

I am fortunate enough to get a hold of Reflex Lights and Natural Beauty palettes! And my favorite is the Reflex Lights between the two.

Here's their Glow Tonic Collection:

Glow Tonic To-Go - you want your glow tonic to-go? Here's their solution! The travel-friendly pads pre-soaked in Glow Tonic so you can quickly achieve that toned, brightened, and hydrated skin wherever you go - $18

Glow Tonic Serum - this serum is all about hydrating and moisturizing while providing gentle exfoliation to the skin to show a radiant complexion - $24

On-The-Glow - would be one of my favorites! This multi-tasking stick can hydrate the lips, body, and hair! It's a perfect travel-buddy moisturizer -  $18

Phenomenal Gel - this neutralizing moisturizer  helps stabilize skin's pH levels while providing moisture and balance complexion - $24

Glow Tonic (100 ml) - this is my first and most favorite Pixi Product of all time! This gentle toner smoothes the skin and gives it a healthier glow - $15

Glow Tonic Cleansing Gel - this will probably be my least favorite skincare product from PixiBeauty. Although it promises to remove impurities and brighten the skin, I did not feel or see anything special when I used it. - $18

And yes, the Glow Tonic will always be one of my forever favorites!

Here's their complete Vitamin C Collection:

I got 5 of these products which I listed below:

Vitamin-C Juice Cleanser - it gently cleanses and brightens skin while improving the overall tone and appearance of your complexion while boosting your skin's natural luminosity. - $18

I used up the Vitamin-C Juice Cleaner and Vitamin-C Tonic pretty quickly, which tells you that it has become my favorites from this collection. Among others that I don't currently own, I am down on trying the Beautifeye Eye Patches ($24), Vitamin C Sheet Mask ($10), and the Vitamin Wakeup Mist ($15).

The Layers Highlighting Palette - with this highlighting palette, you can customize your own highlight by mixing it together and layering it. It's a multi-use glow-mix palette for your lids and cheeks. - $24

It definitely falls into the on-the-go category, and what more interesting is that it is smudge-proof! I have this is One and Done, Copper Glaze and Matte Cocoa shades, but it's available in 4 other shades: Pearl Lustre, Pink Quartz, Matte Cognac, Bronze Blaze- $14

Lit Kit - This Kit includes Liquid Fairy Lights, a long-wear, liquid glimmer eyeshadow, and MatteLast Liquid Lip that provides full-on color while keeping the lips hydrated. It comes in two varieties - Day and Night, so you can easily change up your look - classic to dramatic! - $18

My top two from this collection is definitely the Eye Heart Palette and the Lip Kit!

Here's their complete Hydrating Milky Collection:

REVIEW: BAREPRO 16-HR Full Coverage Concealer

Thursday, April 12, 2018

Hello! I am back! I know I've been MIA for quite a very long time. Sorry! Life hit me hard this time. I am slowly trying to go back to my normal self. Anyway, I wanted to share my experience of my recently received Influenster Voxbox featuring Bare Minerals New Barepro Concealer. If you are interested to know more, please feel free to read on. 😄

I am thrilled to receive this Barepro 16-hr Full Coverage Concealer 'coz who doesn't need a good concealer in their lives, right?

As you can see, this concealer is a stick type one which is just fine with me. I think it was a little tiny for its price though - $24. But again, it's from a popular brand which I am beginning to love, by the way. And also, I noticed that you don't really need to use a lot of it, so I think it will last just fine.

I received the Fair/Light-Neutral 03 shade which I think is a good match for my skin. I consider my skin tone as a medium type leaning towards a warmer undertone. But again, I am still new to all this makeup journey so I am still learning and not in any way an expert on determining such things. 😁 So if you know better, please feel free to share in the comments below. 😊

So, going back to the product, below are the benefits it claims according to Bareminerals' website:

  • Full coverage formula
  • 16-hour wear
  • Crease-proof, waterproof, smudge-proof, sweat-resistant, humidity-resistant, transfer-resistant
  • Dermatologist-tested
  • Paraben-free, fragrance-free, gluten-free and talc-free
  • Vegan
  • Ophthalmologist-tested and safe for contact lens users
  • Mineral Lock™ Long Wear Technology powers this long-lasting concealer with mineral pigments and plant-derived lipids that help the concealer glide on smoothly and bind to the skin for lasting high performance
  • Bamboo stem extract smooths the look of fine lines and pores with a blurring, soft-focus effect
  • Kaolin clay helps absorb excess oil
  • Antioxidant-rich botanicals nourish and hydrate skin and help defend it against the damaging effects of pollution and other environmental stressors
  • Not tested on animals
Sounds pretty good, right?!

I love hat they actually offer a variety of shades to choose from. They currently have 15 shades available in total. To view all the shades, you can visit their website.

As for my experience on the product itself, I can say that I liked it but not totally sold. I like its creamy texture that's totally blendable. I had no trouble blending it as it glides smoothly on my face while only using my fingertips.

It actually has a good coverage but I felt it was only a medium coverage for me instead of its full coverage claims. But it did minimize the look of my pores and smoothen it out.

As you can see in my before and after photo above, my dark circles and blemishes are still slightly visible. Also, for some reason, the product tends to crease on my eye area so there's always a need for me to set it with powder.

But, I really enjoyed testing out this product and it actually became a staple part of my makeup routine. As for the lasting power, it did pretty well but I cannot attest to the 16-hr coverage yet since I only wore it for a max of 10 hours. It is indeed waterproof as it took me a while to wash it off. So overall, I will still recommend you to try this product, since every one of us tends to have different experiences with any product.

Also, it's good to note that this concealer has some pretty good ingredients such as bamboo stem extract to smooth the look of pores and fine lines, as well as powerful antioxidant-rich raspberry seed oil, blackcurrant seed oil and sea lavender to nourish and hydrate skin and help defend your complexion from the damaging effects of pollution and other environmental stressors. To see the full list of its ingredients, you can check it out here.

Do you think this product is worth a try? If you already tried this concealer, how was your experience? Share away in the comments below!

Review: Revlon PhotoReady Face Products

Thursday, December 28, 2017

I've been MIA for quite a long time, I know! Life caught up with me, but anyway, here's another exciting makeup review! I have been trying the Revlon PhotoReady Face Products I received complimentary from Crowdtap. How awesome is that?!

Let me just start by saying Cowdtap is still on my top favorite site where I get free products. I received a lot of amazing stuff this year! And I am happy to say that almost all my branded makeup came from this site. So, if you are not a member yet, what are you waiting for?

The most recent Sample Mission I had with them was with Revlon's PhotoReady Face Products Collection. I received the following:

  • Revlon PhotoReady Insta-Filter™ Foundation
  • Revlon PhotoReady Prep, Set, Refresh™ Mist
  • Revlon PhotoReady™ Color Correcting Pen
  • Revlon PhotoReady Galaxy Dream™Palette

So in this blog, I will be reviewing each one of them. Let's start with the Foundation.

Revlon PhotoReady Insta-Filter™ Foundation

Claims: Flawless Finish, Built-In Blender, All Day Wear, High-Definition Filter technology captures and transforms any light to blur and soften flaws

I received the Natural Beige Shade which I think was great for my skin tone. I actually have high hopes in this foundation and thought that the applicator was great the first time I saw it. However, it was actually hard to control how much product to get from the applicator.

Also, this doesn't cover much of my skin's imperfections like my acne scars. So it ended up with a medium coverage for me. The finish was great - not cakey. The product was easily blendable but it only stays for a few hours. Also, if you have a dry skin, keep in mind to always moisturize your face first before applying this foundation as it tends to make your face more dry.

Retail Price: $17.99 at Ulta

Revlon PhotoReady Prep, Set, Refresh™ Mist

Claims: Hydrating, Weightless, 3-in-1 use, High-Definition Filter technology captures and transforms any light to blur and soften flaws

I love the smell of this mist! The subtle scent was so refreshing to me. As a primer, it helps to freshen up my face and makes it easy for me to apply my makeup. It sets my make up pretty well too giving it a silky hydration. I always have it in my makeup bag and I love freshening up with this spray mist. Very handy and works great for me!

Retail Price:  $12.99 at Ulta

Revlon PhotoReady™ Color Correcting Pen

Claims: Neutralize color imperfections instead of covering them, Soft precision brush allows you to target your problem zone for easy application anytime, anywhere

This color correcting pen works well. It covers the redness as promised and it's blendable, although the formula could have been thicker. The packaging doesn't really impress me. At first, I find it hard to get the product out then it became harder to control how much product to get using the applicator. But it does the job.

Retail Price:  $10.99 at Ulta

Revlon PhotoReady Galaxy Dream™Palette

Claims: Easy to Blend, Universally flattering shimmer shades, silky smooth powder format

Next to the Prep, Set, Refresh Mist, this palette is my favorite. I love all the beautiful shimmering colors. It is so pigmented, blendable and easy to apply. It goes along perfectly with other makeups too. The color is not that blinding but it will definitely give you a subtle glow, perfect for an everyday look!

Retail Price: $14.99 at Ulta

Crowdtap Mission: Julep Cushion Complexion Review

Wednesday, September 6, 2017

So, another makeup mission from Crowdtap! I couldn't be happier when I was approved and was sent not only one, but 5 shades of these amazing Julep Cushion Complexion!

Below are the 5 shades of Julep Cushion Complexion 5 in 1 Skin Perfector With Turmeric  I received:

1. 200 Nude - a Medium Nude shade with Cool Undertone
2. 210 Cashmere - a Medium Cashmere shade with Cool Undertone
3. 220 Sand - a Medium Sand shade with Neutral Undertone
4. 230 Beige - a Medium Beige shade with Warm Undertone
5. 240 Camel - a Medium Camel shade with Warm Undertone

Shade Swatches

This Cushion complexion claims to be made of natural ingredients such as Tumeric Extract that provides long-term brightening benefits and contains anti-inflammatory properties. It also has Camellia Seed Oil that contains skin-calming properties and provides nourishing & moisturizing benefits and Soft-Focus Powders that blur the look of fine lines & imperfections while creating a smooth, demi-matte finish that’s never flat.

So this Julep Cushion Complexion works as a 5-in-1 Skin Perfector:

1. Conceal - dark circles, acne, hyperpigmentation & smile lines
2. Correct - neutralize redness & inflammation
3. Illuminate - to bring out the high points of the face
4. Blur - the look of fine lines & imperfections
5. Brighten - the skin with long-term with Turmeric Extract

I love the design of this cushion, making it easy to apply and carry around. The applicator has a twist bottom design.  At first use, you have to twist it multiple times until you see the product being dispensed in the applicator tip. The formula was also buildable, which you can blend easily and can give you a medium to full coverage.

Among these 5 shades, the Sand, Beige, and Camel are those that more likely be perfect for my olive skin tone. But I also like using the Nude shade for a brighter skin.

I like how it can conceal my skin's imperfection, I currently have break outs, and although the Nude shade does not completely cover those big pimples that I have (the small ones are easily concealed), I love how it makes my face soft and smooth looking.

Overall, this product was great! You can bring it on-the-go, and it makes it easier to re-touch using this.

On-the-go touch up

These are the photos I took of myself using Julep's Cushion Complexion.

Before & After

Final look with Julep Cushion Complexion

It retails for $300.16 oz, 4.6 g. It's available on Julep's website, and it has a total of 18 shades available.

You can also buy this on Ulta.com and they currently have it on sale for $18

Make it yours, make it fun. BRAVE PRETTY

Crowdtap Mission: Marc Jacobs Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Review

Friday, September 1, 2017

I always loved receiving makeup freebies to test and review. Today, this was extra special because I was able to get a free high-end brand product - Marc Jacobs Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon. I can't believe I got approved in this Crowdtap mission! (Happy Dance!)

Crowdtap is one of my favorite platforms in getting free stuff. I already got quite a few free products from them to test and review. And this is my 4th makeup sample mission. I also already got $55 worth of Amazon gift cards while I have only been a member for 5 months.😊 So, if you are not a member of this site yet, it's time to sign up and start getting those freebies! Sign up here: Crowdtap Sign Up.

Anyway, going back to the product itself. I received 2 full-sized products in 2 colors: Earth(Quake) 41 & Pink of Me 59.

I loved how the 2 Highliners were put in a simple yet elegant black box.

The Highliners have a twist up design and a cleverly hidden sharpener at the base of the liner, making it easy to use and carry around without the need of an extra sharpener. This little sharpener also gives you a chance to shape your liner in a 'point that's as precise as you desire.'

Both shades have an intense color pay off as promised and have a creamy texture and rich pigmentation with a bold matte finish. I love the fact that it's glitter-free as I am not a big fan of glitter.😁 It dries out as quick as 15 seconds so you have to be careful not to mess up or you have to do your eye makeup all over again given that this is a long-wearing and water proof eyeliners. Once it's set, it'll stay for a long time without smudging and budging!😂 But on the other hand, the formula of this highliners glides on smoothly letting you make a precise application in the first place. 😄

The Earth(Quake) 41 color is a dark brown shade with warm undertones. I think this color suits me best and become my instant favorite among the two.

While this shade can be worn for almost every occasion, the Pink of Me 59 color that is a warm pink shade, can be a little tricky to use, especially for me with a slightly dark skin color.😅 I don't feel good with lighter shades of eye liners. But I think it turned out to be just fine on me, right? 😃

The highliners have a decent amount of product. But if you decide to regularly use it in full blown (doing an intricate, artistic graphic liner looks) it might not be enough for 1 month.😁 It has 0.01 oz that retails for $25.

Maximum length

Overall, I like this new Marc Jacobs Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon and would love to try their other shades. They currently have 12 shades available.

Maybelline #SuperStayMatteInk Influenster VoxBox

Sunday, June 25, 2017

I love receiving free products, especially when it's a lip product! Influenster sent me 2 beautiful shades of the new Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink, and I fell in love with it!
I love the brand Maybelline, and I was surprised and thrilled to have been chosen as one of the Influensters to test and review their new product - the Super Stay Matte Ink. As its name applies, this saturated and highly pigmented lipstick can stay up to 16 hours on your lips. Yes, you read it right, 16 long hours of vibrant colors.

This Matte Ink is available in 10 super saturated shades, and I got 2 beautiful shades in Pioneer (#20) and Lover (#15). You can check all available colors here: https://www.maybelline.com/lip-makeup/lipstick/superstay-matte-ink-liquid-lipstick

I was wearing the Pioneer shade on my upper lip & the Lover shade on my lower lip.
The Pioneer shade is much more like a classy red color while the Lover shade is a Mauve or a pale purple color. They both look nice on my lips, and I like them both.💗

To Summarize:

💖PROS:
💕Very nice packaging and easy applicator design
💕Beautiful variety of shades available
💕Very saturated and pigmented
💕Long lasting and doesn't smudge (I tried it, and it survived my 14hr busy day with all the talking, eating, drinking and even brushing my teeth afterward)
💕Transfer-proof

💔CONS:
💘For me, it felt sticky at first application, and then my lips felt dry at the 10th or so hour
💘It was tough to remove and quite messy too, but it gets easier when you use an oil-based makeup remover.

Slayin' with my Super Stay Matte Ink in Pioneer Shade

Rockin' it with the Super Stay Matte Ink in Lover Shade

My 14hr use of Maybelline's Super Stay Matte Ink😍

Overall, I love this product! I've long been searching for a lipstick that won't stain my straw or glass when I drink, and this was perfect! Now the search is finally over.

So, have you tried this new Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink? What can you say about it? What colors have you tried? Share your thoughts in the comments below!  Also, you can watch my video here:
